My car listed above has 156,000 miles. The dealer said the transmission fluid should have been flushed at 100,000 miles so I am going to do it now. Even though I am late, shouldn't I follow the dealer's recommendation to change the fluid right away?

Advanced Auto sells a Valvoline transmission fluid supposedly for Mazda 5's, that is significantly less expensive than buying from the dealer (at least 20% less). Can you tell me the exact type of transmission fluid so I can shop at Walmart?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi,

It should be done. As far as the type, here is the manufacturer's type and capacity. If you are looking for a universal ATF, just make sure it meets Mazda's M-V requirements. Usually it will list the different fluids it can replace.
