When I bought it I was told it shudders in reverse. 2 weeks later the reverse stopped working. Engine just revs. It would work when in 4x4 low until I drove the truck into high water. I had to have it towed home. I checked the oil and transmission fluid, and it was fine. The air filter didn't get wet, so I had to jump start the battery and it drove fine. Reverse still didn't work not even in 4x4. After 2 days suddenly it wouldn't engage when shifting to drive. The engine just revved but there was no forward movement. I checked transmission fluid, and it was milky. Of course, I parked it and got a filter and gasket. Now I'm needing to know how to do a complete flush including torque converter. I've been told several things including don't ever flush torque converter but I have to get the water completely out. Please advise as I don't have money to take to the service dept.

Once the transmission fluid gets water in it the transmission needs to be rebuilt. I would replace the radiator as well in case the internal cooler is leaking. Water dissolves the bonding material of the clutches. If you still want to flush the system you can drop the pan and install a new filter, then, disconnect one of the cooler lines and then put both sides into a bucket. Start the engine and add fluid until it runs clear, this can take about 16 quarts.

Here is a generic guide to help you step by step with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how to use your car:
