Transmission fluid mercon LV or mercon v?

I have a 2007 Ford explorer sport Trac V8 6r 60 automatic transmission the fill plug is on the top passenger side everything that I can find tells me to use mercon SP but I cannot find it can I use mercon LV or mercon v I do not believe the transmission has ever been serviced but the gasket is leaking so I need to repair it

Can you substitute Mercon LV or Mercon V? No, these are different fluids. If you mix them they can lead to slippage are hard shifts. Use a full synthetic ATF that explicitly lists “Mercon SP” compatibility (MaxLife is commonly used and easy to find). Ken
