What is the best way to change the transmission fluid and filter?

I want to change transmission oil with filter and gasket, getting a lot of different advice on this. What’s the best way to do it? I have all the tools, but mostly I want to know the risks if there is some.

It is a good idea to service the transmission and filter. Some say don't do it if the transmission is old, but I will tell you want will ruin the transmission that is a clogged fluid filter.
