Transmission/engine swap compatibility?

I have the vehicle listed above with the 2.5 DOHC engine, and a five-speed manual transmission. I have access to a 2001 Subaru parts car, with a manual transmission and 2.2L engine.

The questions are:
1. Can I swap the transmission from the 2001 subaru into the 1999 Subaru?
2. Can I swap the 2001 Subaru 2.2 L engine into the 1999 subaru?

Hi,

No matter what, there will be things that need to be changed, but there is a chance it will work.

However, I need to know the model of the 2001. The 2001 Legacy didn't have a 2.2L. It only came with the 2.5L. On the other hand, the 1999 came with a 2.2L. By chance, did you mix them up? I don't think the 2.2L was offered in 2001.

Let me know. Also, the engine will be a nightmare to change. Mounts, modules/computers, wiring harnesses, vacuum harnesses, and so on will all need to be changed. It's not a simple undertaking. The transmission will also require changes but may be a bit easier because it is a manual transmission.
