Making whining sounds when shifting into drive or reverse occasionally does hard shifts going uphill. speedometer and everything on the dash is not working except the ABS light is on.

It sounds like you may have two problems. let's start with the speedometer problem which will make the car shift funny. Please run the codes to see if a VSS is out. Here is a guide to help:
