I have a check engine light on and an engine fault on gauge cluster. It’s throwing a p0707 and a p0706 code resulting in the car not starting.

So I assume the engine is not cranking over (starter operation), correct?

P0706 - Transmission Range Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance

P0707 - Transmission Range Sensor "A" Circuit Low Input

This is a big problem with these cars, unfortunately Ford thought it would be a good idea to put the switch/sensor inside the transmission instead of the easier external switch/sensor. You will need to remove the transmission pan and the selector shaft to replace the gear range sensor. Here is an image of its location, this is the second time today I have given this answer. :/ There are special tools involved as well, let me know if you need the complete instructions on the repair. Check out the images (in blue - below). Let us know how it goes.

Thank you. Unfortunately, i thought that was the case. Yes, if you could give me detailed instructions that would be awesome. Also, it’s throwing a u0401 code any insight on that would be great also.

The U0401 - Invalid Data Received from ECM/PCM "A" could be a side effect of the bad gear range sensor. Here is how to replace the unit, check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Yep, this is a specialty job and people have had problems with it. Can you upload images so I can see what you are stuck with?

Thank you, can you grab the roll pin with a pair of needle nose vise grips?

I’m trying to change it with the transmission in the car and there’s not much room. I can get vise grips on it as tight as I can but it just slips off when you try prying it out or wiggling it out.

I see in the instructions there is a special tool to push the pin out from the backside, is that what you used to get it out as far as you did? And If so, can you work the pin further out with the tool?

No I don’t have the tool. I’m trying to find the tool but there isn’t any information on it. Do you know what it is?

It is the transmission locking pin removal tool, I would call the dealers parts department to see what they say.

I got it out but What does that shaft connect too on the side. When I got the sensor out you have to spin it to get a shaft off and the whole shaft came with it. Does it just slide back in or is that a bigger problem?

Hmm, it does look like anything is broken, I would change the in the new replacement part and reassemble, be sure to clear the codes once completed.

I got the new part installed and it is working good now. What could a p0087 code mean? I replaced the low-pressure fuel sensor and it still is throwing that code.
