The place where the cable attached to the shifter has broken off?

However, the transmission cable does not move no matter how hard i try. It started getting really hard to shift then i forced it and it broke. So, I have to replace the shifter assembly, but should I also replace the cable and is it supposed be easy to move even by hand!

Hi,

It should be somewhat easy to move by hand, but there will be some resistance. If you disconnect the cable at the transmission and there is still a lot of resistance, then it is bad and needs to be replaced.
