Transmission bolts torque specs needed

Hi,

Installing the transmission can be difficult because of clearance issues. So, I understand your concerns. The most important thing is to make sure the transmission can't fall and hit you.

I attached the directions below for installing the transmission and transfer case. The directions explain the procedure and include the torque specs.

Let me know if this is what you needed or if you have other questions. As far as the top bolts on the bell housing, you can use a torque wrench with the extensions.

How can I find out what size bolts are used on the transmission to bolt it to the engine? If the spline on the transmission is not lined up with the flywheel/engine will the transmission go together?

If the spline isn't aligned, it should prevent it from going together.

As far as the bolt size, do you have any of them? I won't have things like thread pitch and size.

Thank you Sir. I believe I have the right ones, they are two longer ones and I can't remember where they go. I should have got a piece of cardboard and drawn the transmission and put the bolts in the cardboard to mark the spot where they go. How to torque the top bolt's?

Are you able to access them using an extension from under the vehicle? If so, simply attach the torque wrench to the extensions. If there isn't enough room, they make what is called a break-over-torque wrench which you can change the head configurations to meet the needs. This is something that can be used if you can't reach the bolts from the bottom or use a torque wrench from the top.

Because of the price, you may want to just tighten the top bolts very tight. Pay attention to how much tension is applied to the ones you can reach and try to match that. If it is off a little, it won't hurt anything.

Keep in mind, the length of the bell housing bolts may differ.

I have a torque wrench, I thought I had the bolt. I have lost them and I have been trying to find information on the bolts, but I am not having any luck in finding the information. I not sure what bolts go where they go, I am lost.

Let's do this. Take pics of the bolts you have and upload them for me to see. I should be able to at least tell you where they might go. Then, you can try it and see if they work.

Here's the picture of what I think is the transmission bolts, I have two in the transmission. The bolt's with the labels are the ones that AutoZone say is the right bolts, but they are too short. Any hints on getting the top bolts in, the transmission jack is in my way. I have two bolts in the bellhousing to engine block, can I go ahead and install the transmission cross member so I can have room to work.

I looked at the pics. The bolts for the bell housing should be the same diameter. It appears (and I could be wrong) the top ones are smaller in diameter than the bottom ones. As far as the new ones, take them to a hardware store or a store that specializes in fasteners and they should be able to get you the size you need.

As far as the upper bolts,. are you able to reach down from the top to get them started? Also, if you get as many in as possible, slowly lower the trans jack, and the engine and trans will likely tilt-back giving more room.
