How to check the transmission fluid level

These are a pain to check without a lift. However the way it is checked is to run the engine and drive it a bit so the fluid is hot. Now you need to get it into the air and level. The engine needs to be running and you shift it through all of the gears while holding the brake on. Next to do the level check there is a plug on the side of the transmission case under it between the engine oil pan and the transmission output casting. With the engine running at idle in park, you remove that level screw. Fluid should be just level with the screw threads or a small dribble seeping out if it's full. I prefer to see just a small amount as that tells you it is indeed full and it doesn't cause an issue. To add fluid you use the vent fill cap on top. Use either Dexron III or VI fluid. To add fluid you can shut off the engine but to check it after adding you need to start the engine and run it through the gears again.
