shifting from first to second goes in hard sometimes. Sometimes it makes a whining sound. Once it shifted it's fine until i stop and do it again.

Good morning,

The first thing I would do is change the fluid and filter. The filter may be clogged not allowing enough fluid into the pump for the valve body. That would also explain the whining. It sounds like a power steering pump when it is starved for fluid.

As far as the hard shifting, I would change the fluid first before looking for a broken accumulator spring.
