Good morning,

There are 2 transmissions listed for your truck. I posted them below. They are the only transmissions that will fit in your truck.

I just would like to know if a 1995 Dodge Dakota 5 speed transmission will bolt up to my 2001 manual transmission.

The bell housing should fit fine. However, the shift linkage may be different as well as the output shaft and splines on it. The overall length may vary as well.

I would count the splines on both.
Measure the drive shaft diameter on both.
And measure the overall length.
Last look at how the shift linkage attaches and see if it will hook up.

Unfortunately it will not work without some alterations to the body. I am not positive it will bolt up but I know for sure the shifter is in a different alignment and the electrical connectors are different. I am sure the electrical can be made to work since this is just a manual transmission but this will not be just a plug and play swap.

If you have the patience to work through the issues as they arise then I imagine it could work but again, it is not something I would try to do over a weekend.

I would like to swap my v6 and 5 spd for a 318 v8 and automatic transmission from a 2000 durango. Will these match up to my stock rear end?

This is a lot of work. As far as the differential, it should be fine. However, the drive shaft length may need to be adjusted.

Hello,

Looks like my PO783 code and/or another issue has caught up with me and I have to do some open heart surgery on the automatic transmission. I have a chance to get another used one at a good price. My question is, will they be compatible?

What I'm talking about is will my 97 Dakota 3.9L 2wd
accept a 2001 Dakota 3.9L 2wd transmission? Dealer tells me I have a 42RE trans. Not sure what this other one is but it should be similiar if nothing else. Also will my current PCM recognize it as well. A few things to consider before I dump some $$ that way.

If there is anything else I should consider, please feel free to advise.

We only recommend direct fit parts. When you go from a 97 to to an 01, there are most likely going to be sensor changes and then the computer will not recognize what is happening.

It may if it's a 46re or 47re and both from same year. If 4wd it will be different with a shorter output shaft.

The transmission in my 1997 6cyl Dakota has broken so I am wanting to swap it with the transmission from a 2000 4cyl Dakota. Will I be able to do this or would I have to find a different tranny? Or could I take the engine from the 1997 (6 cylinder 3.9 L automatic) dodge dakota and put it into the 2000 (4 cylinder 2.5L standard) dodge dakota?

You have to make sure that the bolt pattern is correct and the wiring harness for computer is the same otherwise it won't work. You also need a torque converter for a 6 cylinder
