Truck will go in drive and reverse l1 and l2. In drive it will not go over 30 mph. In l2 will not go over 40 mph. Does this mean my transmission is bad or is there something else I should look at?

Good morning,

Does the transmission feel like it is shifting or is the engine running at high engine RPM?

How long since the transmission has been serviced?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-service-an-automatic-transmission

Is there any codes stored for the system?

The rpm goes high if it goes above 40 mph. Do not know about codes and has never been service. Do you think it could be my catalytic converter?

No, this sounds like a transmission issue from your description. Take it to a parts store and see if there are any codes stored.

I would start by changing the oil/filter in the transmission and inspect for any debris in the pan.

Okay, thanks. If the strainer has debris in it will that cause it not to accelerate?

It is possible but if you find debris, then the next step is to have someone check this to confirm. Have them road test the truck to confirm your issue.
