Feels like something wrong with the linkage as the shifter moves through all the gears but does not move out of park, I pulled into a driveway, put the car in park, left the car for 5 minutes, came back and it would not move out of park.

Hi,

There are a few places where the linkage cable may have failed. It could be in the center console where it attaches to the shifter, there is a retainer that prevents the cable from moving mounted on the trans, and the most common place is where the cable connects to the transmission shift lever.

I attached two pics below; the first pic is the mount/retainer. Check to see if it has come off the retainer.

The second pic shows how the cable attaches to the shift lever. It isn't uncommon for them to wear at that point and the cable comes disconnected. Check that as well.

If both things are attached and in good condition, on a level surface, block the wheels and apply the parking brake. Have a helper (holding his foot on the brake pedal) shift through the gears while you watch to see if the shifter moves. If it doesn't, then we will need to dismantle the console/shifter.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
