I slammed on my brakes while driving my 1994 Honda Accord (automatic transmission). Since then, my car has had a real hard time shifting gears. It will rev-up at 2nd gear and if its not going fast enough the transmission won't shift into 3rd.

Check the transmission fluid level and condition.
Check for trouble codes.
Have the throttle position sensor tested.
Is the speedometer working correctly?

The speedometer has been acting up for a long time so I didn't think that it could be a problem.

Oh also, How do I check for trouble codes and have the throttle position tested? Go to a mechanic?

Thanks,
Steve

Above link shows how to retrieve trouble codes.

A faulty vehicle speed sensor would cause the speedometer to fail and a failled VSS can affect driveability and transmission shifting irregularities.

To test the TPS you would need a DVOM and follow some procedures.
