Transmission doesn't want shift to third gear/OD most of the time but works sometimes. Other times it doesn't want to take off properly from 1st to 2nd, will just tach up and not pick up speed like it should.

Hi,

When you say it will tach up and not pick up speed, does it seem like it's slipping? Also, is the check engine light staying on?

If you haven't already, I need you to check the transmission fluid level and condition. Make sure the engine is at operating temperature and the vehicle is running and on a flat surface. When you check it, see if it has a burnt smell.

Next, have you had the transmission serviced? There was a technical service bulleting out years ago related to the cooler and flushing it. If it is partially plugged, it can lower line pressure and cause shifting problems.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

I guess it's like slipping but it doesn't happen all the time. Check engine light is on buy not for transmission, MAF sensor and vacuum. I had drained, filter changed and refilled, not sure if they flushed it. Engine is normal operating temperature.

Hi,

The best thing to do at this point would be to check transmission line pressure. If something is restricting it, that can cause it to slip. Keep in mind, the transmission clutches may be worn as well.

If you look below, I attached the directions for testing line pressure. This would be where I would start. If you perform this, make sure you have a gauge that can reach the possible pressures that will be supplied.

Let me know.

Joe
