Transmission shifts into drive and reverse but it will not shift into any other gears. I was wondering Could be the two shifts solenoids.

Hi,

I need to ask something. When you say it only shifts into drive and reverse, do you mean the shifter won't allow it to move further, or in drive, does the transmission not shift?

If it is a shifting issue, it could be related to a shift solenoid. What I strongly recommend is to have the can-bus system scanned. That will identify where the problem is coming from.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. By doing this type of scan, any codes stored in the TCM (transmission control module) should show.

Here is a video showing how it's done:

Additionally, make sure the transmission fluid is clean and full as well.

Last, if you are unable to shift into other gears, confirm the shift cable is not damaged or out of adjustment. I attached a pic below of how the shift cable runs from in the vehicle to the transmission. Have a helper shift through the gears and watch to see if it is moving at the transmission.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

If you have drive and it won't shift between gears while in drive, first make sure the fluid is clean and full. If it is, then I recommend having the can-bus scanned to identify if it is a shift solenoid, and if it is, which one.

There are other things that can cause this such as low line pressure in the system and worn or damaged parts, so we need to confirm the cause.

Let me know what codes are found so I can direct you. Also, let me know if you simply have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
