Transmission will work as intended one time and will get stuck in second gear at other times. It's a sporadic issue. My question is, would this be related to the solenoid pack. Thank you for any advice.

Yep, it sounds like the solenoid pack has gone out, they service them as a unit. Here is the location of the solenoids and how to replace them in the images below.

Fluid Types

USA, Alaska

Nissan Matic "D" Fluid

Canada

Nissan ATF or DEXRON III/MERCON

Capacities

CAPACITY, Total fill*:

2WD. 7.9 liters 8.3 quarts

4WD. 8.5 liters 9.0 quarts

*Total (dry) fill shown. Use less fluid when refilling

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Thanks very much for that detailed response. I appreciate it very much. I had a feeling that was the issue I just don't like being a parts changer. I feel much better now going ahead with it. I'll post results as soon as I get it done.
Thanks again.

I had a mechanic tell me to check my alternator. I just bought this truck from things I see their mechanic wasn't too good. Anyway, I checked my voltage it was hard on 13 not dead but not up to par. I did some checking and realized there were no grounds just the battery to block I made two more battery to body and body to motor charging is up to 14.2 and so far, transmission is working as intended.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks again
