I was driving 2 weeks ago an drhe car stopped accelerating and just started revving up so I put the car in park and it made this crazy grinding noise until I turned it off. With the car in park it will roll if on a hill but will hold with break engaged. Automatic transmission

Good afternoon

This sounds like you have a bad axle shaft in the front of the car.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-cv-axle

I would jack it up and inspect the axles and see if one or both have failed and are not connected to the tires.

Thanks Roy I have just one more question. The fact that the grinding noise only happens when the car is on and I put it in park from any other gear has nothing to do with transmission has me baffled

The grinding noise is from the parking pawl trying to engage in park.

Hey roy it's me again hopefully for the last time. The car acts like its stuck in neutral. It wont go in reverse either. Everyone keeps saying it sounds like a transmission problem

OK, I am not everyone and if you have an axle issue it will not engage into any gear.

Get the axles checked and stop listening to people who know nothing about this issue.

Just get them checked. It is an easy repair and not that expensive.
