The car drives but does not shift into gear and is sluggish when driven. I put it in low gear and drove it there does not seem to be a leak of transmission fluid. I also have a 2001 Toyota runs but will not pass smog, maybe I can make one out of both? I do not know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It goes in reverse fine and in drive it just does not shift.

To me it sounds like the transmission computer is in "limp mode." Limp mode is what the computer does when it detects some sort of problem. Basically, it keeps you from driving much more than enough to take it to a mechanic. I would take it to the local transmission or any mechanic with a decent scanner (tech 2 would be nice). That scanner will be able to talk with the transmission computer and likely see what is going on. Could be as simple as a broken wire or blown fuse.

The idea of putting the two cars together to make one isn't necessarily a bad one, but we would need the specifics of both cars. Model, engine size, transmission type (auto or manual), etc.
