A gear broke in my transfer case, and I simply cannot afford a replacement. Can I somehow bypass or disable it and still drive it?

All you can do is try it. I would remove the rear driveshaft and see if the car operates in a normal way. You may get some warning lights which is to be expected. Here is how to change out the transfer case which you can find a used one by searching ebay and how to remove the rear drive shaft to see if it works. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Okay, so, I told my friend who's working and he replied, " how would it drive if I take off the rear drive line"?

I am not sure that why I said you are going to need to try it to see. I don't think it will work but you can give it a try.
