Hard telling because you have to know why it specifically is making the noise. It may be a U joint. Have it looked at locally

All I know is he said some shop told him that they could make it 2WD for 400$ and 4WD for 800$ he said he drove it about 40 minutes I know I have read a lot online and it seems to me it might be the chain in the transfer case lose idk just nervous to drive it don't want to mess it up

Well I can't really give a good diagnosis cause I really can't hear it even if you recorded it, it would be a guess and nothing else.

DIFFERENT GUY

PERSONALLY, I WOULD NOT DRIVE EITHER OF MINE AROUND THE BLOCK IF I DID NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE, AND WHETHER IT WAS GONNA CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE.

I THINK I'D TRY TO HIRE A ROLL BACK TRUCK, OR RENT A TRUCK AND TRAILER.

JUST GUESSING, $300 NOW vs BROKE DOWN/ TOW EXPENSE/ REPAIR EXPENSE (AGAIN, A FICTITIOUS GUESS $2500 OR MORE REPAIR NOW THAT YOU "REALLY" SHELLED OUT BIG PARTS. NOT TO MENTION YOUR OWN SAFETY. (SEE "MY ANSWER" ON JANUARY, 12, 2011, IN THIS LINK)

MAYBE ANOTHER OPTION?

BUY IT/ INSURE IT WITH TOWING/ LEAVE IT THERE A WEEK

CALL 'EM TELL 'EM YOU JUST BROKE DOWN, NEED TO GET 'ER HOME!
