when driving it is like something got caught and the car locks up

My clutch is good goes in all gears without problems, but when driving it is like something caught and the car locks up almost sending you through the windshield. It will come loose you can go a little bit farther than it repeats. any idea on what this may be? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
