tranny will not shift into park

car runs great,tranny has no slippage at all. but when try to shift back into park, it will just not shift. i have to shut the engine on neutral and block tires to prevent from rolling

If the shift lever feels normal with all the detents, the parking pawl inside the transmission is most likely broken. If you can shift to first gear but the lever feels like it can go another click, the cable is loose or misadjusted or a mounting bracket has rusted apart and is allowing the cable to shift position.
