The transmission on my car went out. So I was able to get a transmission from a 1998 Crown Victoria and just looking at them they looked the same until I tried to bold it to engine. Come to find out the torque converter is different size. So I changed flex plates and now when I marry the transmission to engine it binds up when the bell housing bolts are tight and the engine will not turn over. I need to know what the is issue?

Check the tag on the transmission itself. Ford used some different units for various option packages.
F8AP-AA, F8AP-CA, F8AZ-AARM XW7P-AA, XW7P-DA, XW7Z-AARM were used in late build date 1998's through 2000.
XW7P-BA, XW7P-CA are 2000 year only units.

F8AP-BA, F8AP-DA, F8AZ-BARM are 1998 only units. Converter and front pump are different according to Ford.
