Transmission not working properly

My friend has the vehicle listed above and you can shift it in reverse and drive nothing happens wont move in either gear, but when you put back in park make a grinding noise. anyone have any idea what the problem is?

The sounds indicated the internals are working.

The most common issue with this grinding and no movement is one of the front axles has failed. If one axle is bad, it will not allow the car to move at all.

I attached the procedure for replacing the axle shafts below. Inspect the axles to determine which one has failed.

Make sure you get it aligned when you are finished.

Okay, I'll check it out. they were thinking it might have been the neutral safety switch.

No, that will never do that at all. That just controls the backup lights and the position of the shifter.

Okay, so most likely one of the axles are broken then should both be changed at once or how do you tell which side is broken?

You can just replace the failed axle. Check the boots for any damage or leaking

You need to jack up the front end and put it on jack stands. Then start it up and put it in gear and see which axle is turning but the wheel is not turning.
