Transmission problem, 40-50 MPH engine revs up to 3,500 RPMs and is not pulling?

2001 Z71 4wd Tahoe with 4L60E transmission. a 40-50 MPH engine revs up to 3500 rpm's and isn't pulling. give it gas and transmission gets it mind back. No Codes, No Noise, Reverse fine. It is intermittent problem. does it sometimes and sometimes its fine.

It sounds like the transmission is not shifting. I would first check the fluid and if it is burnt and discolored, I would try to service the unit, but you may have an internal problem which means it might need to be rebuilt. When you have the pan off look for metal pieces inside the pan which is an inductor, something is broken. Here are two guides to help us see what's going on.
