86 Toyota Tercel Wagon 4cly with 100,000 miles. I replaced a leaking fuel pump yesterday, however did not install the new one correctly and approximately 2" of pump arm broke off inside engine. Will the broken piece drop harmlessly to the sump or does the engine need to be taken apart to retrieve?

take the intake manifold off -it'd not make it to the crankcase-it stays there forever-if not remove can move around and damage the valve train.
