my 1996 toyota will not pass emissions i was told it probably is my egr valve is it possible to clean it out i do not want to buy a new one and find out thats not the problem

Yes you can remove and clean the egr valve ,also make sure you clean passeges inside the manifold
do you have check engine light on
if so scan it for codes and let me know what you have for codes
most common is a vacuum switch under the intake manifold
check vacuum hoses

need manual CHECK IT @
