1995 Toyota Tercel temp guage

after a front end accident the temperature guage will not register but the the cooling fan works along with the heater working.
Where should I look for a remedy?

Check and test the coolant temperaure sensor and if it has an engine temperature gauge switch check that too-to include the wiring connectors
