My car is overheating. The temperature gage lights up and water and coolant must be added. This car has never been tuned up to my knowledge. I bought it when it had just under 20,000 miles on it. The car is very basic. Roll up windows, no stereo or radio, 4 speed manual transmission, a/c and heater. I am going to be commuting to school 120 miles three days per week. What do you recommend I do as a preventative measure? I do have the oil changed about every 5,000 miles. What kind of tune up or maintenace would you recommend?

Thank you for your time and expertise. Best

By what your saying, I would do plugs, wires, change thermostat, check engine coolant temperature sensor, and for good measure, have the radiator boiled out/cleaned. Maybe even a new radiator cap. All these things should stop your car from over heating and save a little gas too, one more thing, change your airfilter.
