My car has started using about 1 quart per 300 miles, I realize this probably a ring problem. what checks can I make and can a ring piston job be done with out removing engine

The only way to confirm it is do a compression and cylinder leakage test. could be valve seals/stems/guides/valves/rings/-

Its a small engine take it out cleanliness is the enemy in engine rebuilding-BTDT many moons.
