1994 Toyota Tercel Break lights stay on when I shut car off

Hello, I am new to this, My name is Olga I am a single mom raising my children and basically I try to do everything myself prior to having to take my car in do to financial hard times. anyhow can anyone tell me where to start my break lights are staying on when I shut my car off and they completely stay solid on at all times when driving....the only way they turn off is if I unplug the battery....DESPERATE MOM IN NEED OF ADVICE...HELPPP
