When my car sits over night or for a 15 min time or longer, it smokes upon starting and then stops after a min or two. I was told there are rubber seals on top or with the valves in the engine that are leaking oil in the cylinders when it sits. Do I need a valve job or just replace these rubber seals. And what are the rubber seals if they even are there. I have never heard of them before. Can you help

What they are talking about are the valve stem seals and yes if you are going to replace them then you should just get the head rebuilt. You can change them without rebuilding the head if you don't plan on keeping the car but you should have a mechanic do this as you need special tools and an air compressor and such. With the mileage given I would find a japanise echange engine, and replace your engine with it. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Before going to far I would do a dry and wet compression test first to see what kind of shape the engine is really in.

When I got the car the owner said he had a commpression check done on it and it was good, The car has good power, and great gas mileage. I think that rebuilding the head would be a good idea, hope the cost is not to much. Thanks

Now remember once you rebuild the head you will have a 500 mile break in which means be easy on it or you will blow out the lower end with this many miles on it ok. Thanks and good luck.
