The car overheats after only a few blocks and the check engine light comes on. The Owner's Manual shows a thing between the radiator and the battery. On the drawing there is a connection to this bottle type thingy, and the radiator. If this thingy is missing, could this make the car over heat and the engine light come on?

Sincerely,

Melanie McDonald

You must be talking about the coolant resevoir bottle.

Try replacing the thermostat and make sure the radiator is filled properly then comeback if it continues to overheat
