The Tacoma stalled out on me and won't start. Battery and fuses have been tested as have the timing belt. The mechanic wants to pull the tranny out. What else could it be?

The transmission wont have anything to do with the engine stalling, what you need to do is check that the engine turns over, check you have spark, fuel pressure, injection pulse and run a scan to test for any set fault codes, they must do the diagnostics correctly rather than just tear it apart hoping to find something wrong.
