Auto transmission is stuck in park. Parked truck on slight down hill slope. Disconnected battery to change corroded battery terminal. Now truck to stuck in park? Any ideas?

Hi wvbruce,

If you are not able to depress the gear shift tab to shift out of park, check if the brake lights are working. If not, then the interlock system is not operating to release the gear shift.

The shift lock solenoid is the mechanism that keeps you from shifting out of park without your foot on the brake. The good news is that most shift locks have an override button. You will need to find it for your particular model year of Tacoma (if applicable).
Finding it is usually pretty easy. Just look at your shifter. There’ll be a little plastic cover, you pop it off and override the shifter lock solenoid. This can get you back on the road in a hurry and could save you from being stranded.
