1996 Toyota Tacoma Is the cruise control tied into the tran

This is my problem, I took my truck into a local transmission shop to have a new clutch put in, when I got it back I went to work the next morning and tryed to use my crusie control. The light comes on in the cluster. But it will not set at all. I have tryed several times But wont work, It worked before I took the truck in for a new clutch. I called them and they said the cruise control dont hook into the transmission the speedometer does But it is working.
