Hey There,

I'm glad to have found your site and thank you in advance for any advice you may give.

Here is the problem:

When I push the clutch in, without the key in the ignition, the engine turns over. It won't start unless I insert the key and turn it on.

other information:

1/ When I push the clutch in to switch gears, I hear a high-pitched grinding noise which may be the starter.

2/ the clock is at a different time every time I start the vehicle.

3/ When this vehicle was produced, it was simply called an SR5, not a Tacoma.

4/ I'm not a mechanic, but I checked a wiring diagram and think the problem may be the starter relay. what the heck is that, and where do I find it?

Thanks,

Jeff

Find the starter relay in the R/B no. 2 right side of engine compartment-remove the relay and see what happens-could be sticking when you step the clutch it grounds the starter circuit this completes the circuit.
