this engine will run perfect most all times but sometimes it surges at about 25 m p h and then at idle it stops always restarts it maw be ok for another week then it starts again surging wont idle

First is the check engine light comming on during these episodes? If yes go to Autozone and they will read the codes for free, post all codes here. If no codes are found, check the IAC(idle air control) there could be a chunk of carbon stuck in it, clean or replace it. Then check the EGR valve for sticking partly open.
