2004 Toyota Sienna AC Cuts Off

Our 2004 Sienna AC generally runs very cold, but sometimes it just stops being cold. The fan blows air, but it is hot.

To make the air come out cold again, I try to turn off/on the AC a few times, which sometimes works. Worst case, I can turn the car off and then restart it and that generally works. If turning it off the first time does not work, generally doing it twice will make the AC work again.

I checked the freon and it is fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

Check the air gap on the compressor clutch. If it's too wide as it heats up it will shut off and the clutch coil wont be able to pull closed. The specs are 0.35-0.60 mm

If the gap is too big can it be adjusted, or does the clutch or compressor require replacement?
