1. I have a 87 pickup, 191000 kms just went to BC Aircare In the idle test hydrocarbons ppm allowable limit is 308 mine reads 418 ppm ,any ideas they said it could be anything from bad timing to a vacuum leak

2. They also told me my rear brakes were seized and there is brake fluid all over the engine compartment. Could the whole brake thing be a leaking hose?

Thanks
:)

Its a 20yo engine-when was the last tune-up

HC Hydrocarbon failures mean unburned gasoline is passing through the engine and entering the exhaust. The three most common causes include ignition misfire, lean misfire and low compression (typically a burned exhaust valve). Ignition misfire can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, bad plug wires or a weak coil.

Lean misfire results where there is too much air and not enough fuel, so check for vacuum leaks, dirty injectors or a fuel delivery problem. In addition to these, hydrocarbon failures can also be caused by oil burning due to worn valve guides, valve guide seals and/or rings.
