The metal gas tank shield fell off due to extensive rust. It is in pieces. Do I need to replace it, and is this a job a handy homeowner with good tools can do himself?

Hi Marc,

I would recommend replacing it as it prevents heat from the exhaust getting to the fuel tank and it won't be difficult to replace.

DO NOT weld if it is attached to the fuel tank edges, use rivets.
