We have mice and chipmunks trying to nest in the engine compartment. In the past, have removed acorns and nesting materials from air filter, engine, etc. We suspect a samll animal got in the heater/fan area. when the fan is turned to high speed, a loud rattling (possibly and acorn) is heard, but most roubling is the bad smell coming from the vents.

How do get to the fan/ heater area?

to get into the vents you will have to disconnect the blower motor wiring harness then remove the blower motor, from there your right in the ductwork.
