The temperature gauge reads as if the motor is overheating (sometimes into the red area) but I have checked the temp of the motor and such with a temp gun and it appears to be fine.

If I turn the truck off for a couple of minutes, the temp gauge returns to normal and sometimes it drops on its own as I continue t drive. I have already checked the radiator, thermostat, radiator cap & hoses, water pump, transmission fluid, etc.

So, what else might cause the temp gauge to do this?
