169,000 miles, 4 cylinder. Has always run great, it recently started rough idling when stopped I took it to a mechanic who speculated that the radiator (which was slightly leaking) and the thermostat needed to be replaced, he wasn't really sure. I went ahead and replaced them myself last night. Today it is continuously rough idling and overheating? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it!

Warm engine up-shut it down-remove radiator cap-start it up-look into the radiator fill neck do you see coolant swirling around-now squeeze the upper hose for a few secs then let go-did it increase.

Could be a blown headgasket -white smoke coming out of the tail pipe-oil does it look milky-for the rough idle-coolant and the air/fuel are mixing causing it.

Check these areas and comeback we still got more to check
