Appears that when the driver was stuck in the snow on the farm, the tranny stick jammed, is there a way to quick fix this or is it a major tranny change out?

Thanks for your email, I called our home town Toyota dealer and they were very helpful and adviced to check a couple of items: rear brake lights & knob on 4x4 drive on council.

Most likely the linkage was broke/bent/knocked out of adjustment.
Raise car, put on stands and inspect linkage on trans. Have someone try to move shifter while you observe the linkage movement.
