1991 Toyota Pickup oil level

This vehicle calls for 4.5 qts of oil with filter. When I change oil and add this amount, the oil stick only registers to the "add oil" mark. Is this common? If not what could cause this?

Hi there,

You may have a wrong dip stick in the engine, if you are sure that you have added the correct amount of oil for your engine, it will be ok, if you can try and locate another dip stick and try that one to see where it registers on the stick.
