1987 Toyota Pickup noise when engaged in 4x4

When I shift into 4 wheel drive there is no noise but when I lock the hubs sounds like gears grinding.. I have already pulled and inspected differential gears look fine?

Hi David,

I don't think it is the differentials.

Check the manual locking hubs for lubrication and wear. I suspect the shafts are not locking properly with the hubs.
