It is normal to a car (Solara 99, 160,000 miles) to lose 1 quart of oil between oil changes? Is that a signal of an engine problem? Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

That is a bit excessive, what weight oil do you use? dose it puff a bit of smoke on start up? any external leaks?

I actually don't have the car, I'm looking to buy a car and I contacted the owner and he told me that the only problem he knows about the car is the missing quart between changes so I want to know if that is a major damage in the engine before getting into the car. Thanks

Hi there,

If you can ask the owner the same questions as i posted i will be a bit to give you a more accurate answer, Oil consumption can be caused by many different reasons, but if not from external leaks, you will be looking at a fair repair bill depending on what is the problem.
